Autodesk previewed an expanded AI assistant experience at Autodesk University on September 15. For construction and property teams, the notable direction is assistance that draws on connected project information rather than a single application.

What Is Available and What Is Planned

The announcement spans Forma, Fusion and Flow. Autodesk says its existing Assistant is available in many products, while the next-generation experience remains a preview. It describes a standalone experience planned for 2027, with further availability and commercial details to follow. Buyers should distinguish the current tools from the announced roadmap.

Project Context Is the Hard Part

TechFullNews analysis: A building project can contain several versions of a drawing, unresolved decisions and documents owned by different organisations. An assistant is useful only if the team understands which information it is using and whether that information is authoritative.

Consider a request to summarise changes affecting a mechanical system. A helpful response should identify the relevant revision and make it possible to inspect the source. A fluent summary without that traceability can leave the reviewer doing the same investigation again.

Prepare the Information Before the Pilot

Choose a limited project area with a clear document owner. Establish how revisions are named, which files are approved and how access is granted. Test a question whose answer is known, then one involving conflicting or outdated records.

Ask the supplier to show how the system handles missing context and permissions. The demonstration should include a user who is not allowed to see every project file. Collaboration does not require making every record visible to everyone.

Keep the Buying Decision in the Present

Evaluate the functions available under the proposed contract today. Treat future capabilities as a roadmap rather than a guaranteed delivery date. The promise of connected assistance is meaningful, but the first useful measure is whether a real project team can find, verify and act on the right information with less rework.
